West Coast Fencing Academy provides the highest quality instruction and training in the sport of fencing. The Club and Coaches conform to all USFA standards and guidelines for safety and proper fencing club requirement

Policy & Procedures for Fencers

Registration and Payment: A completed registration form and the first payment for lessons are due prior to the start of lessons. There are no initial registration fees. Thereafter, payment for each following month is due one week prior to the start of the next month. A billing statement will be issued two weeks before the end of the current month. Late payments will incur a $25 late fee after the fifth day of the month. Payments may be made by: handing to the directors of West Coast Fencing Academy in person, dropping off at the Fencing Academy mail drop box near the office, or mailing to the Fencing Academy address 1323 S. Shamrock Ave, Monrovia CA 91016-postmarked before the 1st of the next month. There will be a $30 fee for all returned checks.

  • Absences/Make-Up Lessons: Students who cannot make it to their upcoming lesson(s) must notify the West Coast Fencing Academy at least 24 hours in advance of their lesson to be entitled to a make-up lesson. Without at least a full day’s notice, for any reason, the student will forfeit the lesson. Student absences/no-shows do not merit credit, refund, or make-up lessons. Students arriving late to a lesson may be only entitled to the time remaining in their lesson slot.
  • Introduction Lessons/ Membership: All new students must take at least 5 private lessons before joining the group class. The $700 annual membership applies to student who do not attend group classes (Private lessons only).

  • Termination of Private Lessons: If the student decides to discontinue lessons with the Academy, please notify the West Coast Fencing Academy at least 2 weeks ahead of the last planned lesson. The student will be responsible for the full month tuition if he/she decides to terminate lessons before the end of the month. There are no refunds for group and private lessons once the student is officially registered. West Coast Fencing Academy reserves the right to cancel any lessons at any time.
  • Rules: West Coast Fencing Academy requires adherence to fencing safety wear requirements. This means that proper fencing safety gear will be required at all times during fencing bouts, including wearing fencing knickers, fencing mask, fencing glove, fencing jacket, and proper shoes. No food or drinks (i.e., open cups, food, etc.) are allowed next to the fencing strips. Only closed water bottles are allowed in the training and fencing strip areas. During competitions and award ceremonies members of the club should wear West Coast Fencing Academy jackets. Parents or non-fencers are not allowed on the fencing strips or in the fencing training areas during class. Strip coaching is mandatory with 5 or more fencers attending the same competition.

West Coast Fencing Academy will be closed for the following holidays:

New Year’s Eve/Day, Independence’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Eve/Day. Students are expected to attend their private lessons on all other holidays that fall on their regularly scheduled day.
